Exploring the Psoas through Yin Yoga, Yogarise Peckham

Exploring the Psoas through Yin Yoga, Yogarise Peckham

The Full Moon has a considerable influence on life and Earth processes. Not just the growth of plants but the ebb and flow of the earth’s oceans as the Moon pulls on all the water on the planet… including the water in our bodies.

The influences on us that we may or may not be conscious of, associated with the phases of the moon is an ancient idea and is reflected in the origins of the word “lunacy” (luna = moon).  The word “lunatic” has it’s roots in the Latin word ‘lunacus’, derived from ‘luna’ (moon), and suggests the traditional myths between madness and the phases of the moon.”

Utilising our most Yin winter energy of water, where we are reminded of our own receptivity, the invitation to listen and to respond in ways that align themselves with our deeper truths…. We will explore the element earth through the Psoas muscle.

Luna consciousness is our ability to connect with and be guided by our emotional responses, our intuition and inner wisdom. The Psoas is far more than just a core stabilising muscle, it is an organ of perception and literally embodies our deepest urge for survival and our desire to thrive and flourish.

Within the Toaist tradition, the Psoas is spoken of as the seat of the soul. When relaxed it is the mark of play and creative expansion and through it’s connected to the diaphragm through connective tissue or fascia, it affects both our breath and fear reflex.

To work with the psoas is not to try to control this muscle, but to cultivate the awareness necessary for sensing its messages, to release tension slowly, mindfully and passively. Releasing the psoas is the mark of opening and expand, enhancing and deepening the lift of the entire torso and heart.

This workshop will encourage an opening up into the space of freedom, to energise new pathways, to reveal and to recognise the delicate dance between power and vulnerability that exists within us all.

Candlelit Yin Yoga and Crystal Bowl Meditation, Light Centre Belgravia

Candlelit Yin Yoga and Crystal Bowl Meditation, Light Centre Belgravia

Join Emma Peel and Christine Pleser for an evening of Yin Yoga and Crystal Bowl Meditation by candle light at The Light Centre Belgravia.

Practise will begin with pranayama (breath control) to assist our slowing down, feeling towards our own internal rhythm and landing from our weeks into a sensitivity towards our bodies, hearts and minds current reality.

Emma will guide you into each seat, allowing the time and space to connect with the physical intention of each seat, allowing time and space to explore ways of finding more comfort so we can relax and dwell in our body, feel the energy of our experience and settle in to the breath awareness meditation.

The Asana practise will be supported by the sounds and vibrations emanating from Christine’s Alchemy Crystal singing bowls offering an opportunity to feel a deeper level of relaxation and awareness of the mind, body and heart dynamic.

A powerful and unique combination, nurturing a deep exploration and observation of the body, heart and mind connect and our path out of disconnect. This workshop would be better suited to those with some Yin Yoga experience.

Five Elements Yin & Yang Yoga retreat in Tiruvannamalai, Southern India

Five Elements Yin & Yang Yoga retreat in Tiruvannamalai, Southern India

Inspired by the Indian Ayurvedic Medicine Five Element theory, this 8 day / 7 night Yoga retreat will be held at the beautiful Ashok Tree Ashram in the sacred rural surroundings of Paliapattu, Tirvannamalai, Southern India. Set in 13 acres of orchards, gardens and fields, this natural environment will place us in the simplicity and support our reconnecting with nature as part of the yoga retreat experience.

The word āyus means life and veda, refers to a system of knowledge. The retreat will not so much give a system of thought but awaken thought and contemplation where we can consider ideas in a journey to discovering and connecting to the roots of your Yoga. A dance between stretching the body and mind outside ideas and narratives with the intention of guiding those with a curious mind deeper into their own practise of Yoga.

This is a journey into and towards simplicity where we find comfort not by adding more and more externally aesthetically pleasing aspects into our experience, but through an intimate awareness of ourselves, we cultivate and fine tuning the qualities of feeling, listening and watching for the purpose of reaching deeper to our interior life.

A week long retreat with morning and evening Meditation practise, twice daily Asana practise of Yin Yoga and Yin Yang Yoga, seven nights accommodation, transfers from Chennai (return flights with BA are currently £450), three organic vegetarian meals a day with the most amazing seasonal fruit available throughout the day to snack on along with chai, herbal teas (some grown onsite), mineral water, tea and coffee, a sunrise hike to the top of Mount Arunachala, a day trip to Pondicherry, an evening temple visit, an introduction to Ayurveda workshop and an hour Ayurvedic treatment.

Nestled in between the gardens, orchards, and fields, the facilities at Ashok include a large open-air Yoga shala, Meditation bowl, temple area and swimming pool (which is currently being built). Also on the Ashok Tree grounds is the Sita Devi Charity School which educates around 100 primary school children per year. Karma yoga at Sita Devi can be one of the many optional daytime activities during the retreat.
