There is a quietness that has been here all along…
Stillness Retreat
SOMERSET 2027
Monday 28th June – Thursday 1st July
A quieter way of meeting yourself.
The Intention
We don't need to step away from life in order to become quiet. Sometimes we simply need enough space around us to hear what has been there all along.
Stillness is one way we can learn to look more deeply at life, gently inviting a more receptive and attentive relationship to our own direct experience. We don't have to look very far. Everything we need is already here, within the movements of body, breath, mind and heart.
This retreat is an invitation into that space. Through meditation, breath, movement, Yin Yoga, sound and time in nature, we begin to listen more closely — not in search of another answer or another version of ourselves, but to meet our experience as it is.
The body becomes the place we return to.
The Place
42 Acres sits within 173 acres of wild Somerset landscape, surrounded by ancient woodland, rewilded meadows and a seven-acre lake. There is a sense here of nature being allowed to be nature - not simply something beautiful to look at, but something we are living alongside.
The land becomes part of the retreat. There will be time to walk through the woods and meadows, swim, rest beside the lake or simply find somewhere quiet to sit and allow the natural world to meet you.
Stillness does not only happen when we close our eyes. Sometimes it comes through walking, listening, looking and remembering that we too belong to the living world around us.
Your Home
For our time together, we will make our home at The Hermitage, a quiet and intimate retreat house nestled within the 42 Acres estate.
The house has a warmth and simplicity that feels made for slowing down. Comfortable bedrooms offer privacy and rest, while shared spaces around the fire, library and dining table give us places to gather naturally throughout the day.
There is something important about being well held when we are learning to become still. Here, comfort is not about excess, but about having what we need to begin to let go.
For these few days, The Hermitage becomes our home: somewhere to practise, eat, rest, talk, be quiet and simply live together at a different pace.
Around the Table
Food is an important part of our time together, and at 42 Acres it begins with the land itself.
Our meals will follow their Soil-to-Gut philosophy, using ingredients grown, foraged and wild-tended across the estate wherever possible. Simple, seasonal and nourishing vegetarian food will be prepared for us by the retreat chefs, allowing what is growing around us to find its way naturally to the table.
Meals are also a time to come together. To eat slowly, talk, laugh and share the ordinary pleasure of sitting around a table with other people. Another part of retreat life, and another way of returning to what is simple.
A Different Rhythm
The rhythm is intentionally simple. Rather than filling each day, we create space for practice, nature and life to weave gently together.
Each morning begins with meditation and pranayama. We break for breakfast before returning to practice, allowing attention to deepen gently over the course of the morning.
The afternoons are spacious. Time to walk, swim, rest, read or simply spend time in nature.
Late afternoon, we gather again for a long Yin Yoga practice before returning once again to quiet. Across our time together, Yoga Nidra, sound and a collective acupuncture treatment will also be woven gently into the rhythm of the retreat.
